Welcome!

The interdisciplinary lab Creative Space for Technical Innovations (CSTI) provides a platform for applied sciences and knowledge transfer. Originating in computer science, the lab cooperates with a broad range of disciplines, including mechatronics, design, art, and social and cultural sciences.

The CSTI lab is a central platform of exchange for providing interdisciplinary projects, cooperations, research studies, graduate studies, and student projects with the necessary technology and methodology. Our interdisciplinary faculty consists of professors, researchers, graduate students, and students who investigate a broad range of transdisciplinary, methodological and reflective questions of digital transformation. In that context we conduct studies, and realize concepts and proof-of-concept prototypes in the following areas:

1) Machine Learning & Data Mining

In machine learning & data mining, we apply different methods (mainly based on tensor flow) to text, data and web logs. For text mining, we use a corpus of the dpa, and to build our own data base, we are, amongst others, cooperating with the University of Hamburg. We hold large capacities for high-dimensional calculations in the form of GPU servers and Tesla cards. More

2) Interactive Virtual & Augmented Reality

Several research projects make use of interactive XR & game design approaches: We investigate the technology and didactics of virtual engineer training; we develop new augmented narratives; and several student projects rely on game design approaches, including a mixed reality escape room. The XR lab at the CSTI holds a wide range of HMDs and tracking systems. More

3) Ubiquitous & Tangible Interaction

Our research on ubiquitous & tangible interaction focuses on environmental sensing and quantified self. We create physical computing, tangibles and hybrid materials manufactured with different materials and digital fabrication technologies (e.g.; Ultimaker, Formlabs). In the context of the LIVING PLACE lab we investigate how these systems impact everyday live. More

4) Science & Technology Studies

In science & technology studies, we investigate the interdependence and interplay between omnipresent digital technology and human adaption. For this, we apply interdisciplinary methodology, including critical design, situated action, ethnography and creative computing. In that area, we cooperate with the Leuphana University Lüneburg and the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena. More
